Ken Loach's drama I, Daniel Blake looks set for glory at the 2016 British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) after scoring seven nominations.

The British drama, about the welfare system in the U.K., has been nominated for Best British Independent Film, Best Director for Loach, Best Screenplay, Best Actress and Best Actor for Hayley Squires and Dave Johns, who will compete against each other for Most Promising Newcomer.

It is closely followed by American Honey, Notes on Blindness and Under the Shadow, which all have six nominations, including Best British Independent Film, a category which also includes Couple in a Hole.

Adult Life Skills also achieved six mentions, while zombie thriller The Girl With All the Gifts has four.

Best International Independent Film looks set to be a battle between some film festival favourites including Manchester by the Sea, Moonlight, Toni Erdmann, and Mustang and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Notable nominations for Best Actress include American Honey's Sasha Lane while her co-star Shia LaBeouf is up for the Best Actor prize against the likes of Michael Fassbender for Trespass Against Us.

Our Kind of Traitor's Naomie Harris, The Girl With All the Gifts' Gemma Arterton and A United Kingdom's Terry Pheto will compete for Best Supporting Actress while Anthropoid's Jamie Dornan, I Am Not a Serial Killer's Christopher Lloyd and Trespass Against Us' Sean Harris are shortlisted for the male equivalent.
