Amy Adams sick to her stomach throughout Arrival shoot

Amy Adams suffered a never-ending stomachache while filming her new sci-fi movie Arrival.

The Academy Award nominated actress plays a linguist who is hired by the military to translate extraterrestrial messages following a shock alien invasion on earth, and the star felt very ill as she immersed herself into the role.

“I know it sounds strange, but characters live in different places in my body,” Adams explains to the New York Daily News.

“My character, Louise, lived in my belly, and that may sound weird, but I just had a stomachache the whole time (during filming)."

Amy grew so used to having stomach pain, when it wasn't there, she thought something was off about her performance.

“I knew whenever I felt nauseous I was connected with (Louise),” she notes.

When the opportunity to star in Arrival came about, Amy was at a point in her career when she was looking to act less, wanting to stay home with her six-year-old daughter Aviana instead, and moving forward, she is starting to become more selective than ever when it comes to film roles.

“For me, it just has to be the right time, the right place (for a role),” she shares. “I’m most likely not going to be able to go to Budapest and shoot something.”

Despite her desire to slow down, Amy has multiple projects coming up. After landing roles in three films released this year (16), including Nocturnal Animals, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and her latest project, Arrival, the actress will next be seen in movies Justice League and Disenchanted, as well as forthcoming television series Sharp Objects.
