STUDIOCANAL and Monumental Pictures announce that BACK TO BLACK, the film directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson which charts the life and music of Amy Winehouse, has reached #1 at the UK & Irish Box Office this weekend with record-breaking figures for an independent British film this year.

BACK TO BLACK achieved opening figures of £2.8m across the three-day weekend in 719 locations - the widest opening location count of the year so far.

BACK TO BLACK’s three-day weekend opening is the second biggest (following Downton Abbey - £3m) for a British film since the pandemic, and the biggest opening weekend for an independent film this year.

In a PostTrak exit survey, BACK TO BLACK achieved 4.5 out of 5 stars and a Total Positive rating with 91% of those surveyed rating the film Excellent or Very Good. PostTrak is an independent survey carried out by Comscore and Screen Engine in cinemas around the UK.
