The Nomad's next major film series is immersive cinema at its finest. While many film lovers have seen Casablanca possibly many times over, the chance to see it in the atrium of the Imperial War Museum amongst original wartime artifacts and a Spitfire suspended overhead is a one-time opportunity.
With just over two weeks until The Nomad's Real to Reel Movie Nights at The Imperial War Museum London, James McAvoy's Atonement costumes are being dusted off as, for the first time, Real to Reel: A Century of War Movies, the IWM's latest major exhibition, brings together a unique combination of film clips, costumes, props, scripts, sketches and designs, alongside original archival material and artefacts from IWM's Collections.
One hundred years on from the most iconic early example of war on big screen -The Battle of the Somme - IWM’s major exhibition and programme of evening events explore how war and conflict have been central to some of this century’s most popular movies.
The season will begin with Real to Reel Movie Nights Presented by The Nomad from Wednesday 2 to Friday 4 November.
The late events offer visitors an exclusive chance to visit the major film exhibition and enjoy the unique experience of a film screening against the backdrop of IWM London’s dramatic Atrium. With a Spitfire suspended above, and other wartime artefacts in close proximity, visitors will be able to watch three iconic war movies: Atonement (2 November), Casablanca (3 November) and Full Metal Jacket (4 November) for a totally new experience of these much-loved films.
TIME OUT LOVES NOMAD AT FARMOPOLIS The Farmopolis series of film events are underway with the next event showing The Fly. For the next two Fridays, Time Out and The Nomad Cinema are hosting intimate film screenings at the recently launched Farmopolis, the London floating garden on the Jetty, presenting rather fitting cult films for you to watch on the jetty while surrounded by beautiful plants in the modern greenhouse on the Thames.
Last week was a sell-out with the magical seascapes of The Life Aquatic. This Friday sees the mad science of The Fly followed by The Little Shop of Horrors on Friday 28th. All screenings cost just £15 with a drink included.
FINE DINING AND FILM AT THE DALLOWAY TERRACE FILM CLUBThe Nomad presents a unique setting for an intimate evening of film and cocktails. Dalloway Terrace is an elegant, poetic and quintessentially English place nestled beside The Bloomsbury, a 153 Lutyen’s designed hotel 3-minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road tube station. Since opening in March 2016 Dalloway Terrace has taken alfresco dining in Central London to another level from frosé (Frozen Rosé) to panama hats, picnics to bottomless brunches – it’s a stunning venue.
With the latest installation of a 30 foot cinema screen, you can now enjoy a unique cinema experience in this English country garden, sit-back and slip on the wireless headsets, enjoy a welcome cocktail which pays homage to the film. Following the film, visitors are invited to enjoy the beautiful new Bloomsbury Club Bar (located beneath the terrace), where sharing plates and drinks will be available for purchase until 2am.
The next films to be screened are The Notebook on Saturday 22 October and Ghostbusters on 29 October.
SLACKERS LOUNGE AT THE HOXTON RESUMES FOR AUTUMN/WINTER The Nomad’s monthly Slackers Lounge at The Hoxton resumes its residency indoors now the sun sets on summer. Check in to the cosy surroundings of one of Shoreditch’s most loved hotel haunts, catch a film, dine at the Grill and put your feet up for the night. Or just pop in to watch a film in the intimate pop-up cinema room The Nomad have created.
Just in time for Halloween the Slackers Lounge resumes with a fright night showing The Blair Witch Project on Sunday 23 October, then for November the slackers can indulge in some Ryan Gosling fare with The Nice Guys.
