SEASON 2 of this riveting drama kicks off with a bang, or a few if you will! Yes, everyone’s favourite villains are back to make Gotham even more dangerous than in the previous season, while Detective Gordon’s finds himself fired before being re-instated. Just as well, seeing how scheming super villain Theo Galavan is hell-bent on mass destruction, thus giving Gotham’s self-styled leader Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin a fair old run for his money!

After Detective Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) has been fired, his loyal colleague Detective Bullock (Donal Logue) resigns in protest. Gordon, however, has the last laugh after a ‘collaboration’ with crime boss Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) leads to him being re-instated in the force, though it’s not quite as straightforward as it sounds. Meanwhile, Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his sister Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) mastermind the abduction of several Arkham Asylum inmates including ‘Joker in the making’ Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan) and Gordon’s former flame Barbara Kean (Erin Richards). In no time all hell breaks loose in the troubled city and the body count rises drastically – perfect opportunity for some truly dramatic kick-ass scenes!
But it’s not only Gordon who got fired and re-instated! Loyal-to-the-bone Butler Alfred J. Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) is asked to leave by an incensed Master Bruce (David Mazouz) for meddling with some of young Bruce’s plans to explore his late father’s computer further, but is given his job back when he promises Bruce to train him physically, so the lad may confront his parent’s killers one day.

During a glamourous society event Galavan manages to pull off a ruse which sees several dead including Jerome (killed by his own ‘boss’ Galavan) and psychotic Barbara on the loose… a fact that leaves Gordon as well as his leading lady Dr. Leslie Thompkins (Morena Baccarin) more than a little nervous… Galavan, who so far has successfully managed to convince everyone that his only interest is to protect the citizens of Gotham, announces his candidacy for mayor and will leave no page unturned to achieve his goal – even if it means kidnapping Cobblepots’ beloved mother Gertrud Kapelput (Carol Kane) and blackmailing him into killing every other candidate or else! Not only is poor Cobblepot confronted with the prospect of losing his mother – during this second season he also finds his long-lost father Elijah Van Dahl (Paul Reubens) – only to lose him again in a truly terrible way.
On the romantic front it looks as if Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) and Miss Kringle (Chelsea Spack) might finally pull it off, but all comes to a premature end when – during a candle-lit dinner and a well-meant confession in Ed’s place – all goes horribly, horribly wrong!
Master Bruce also pays the prize when slowly but surely he begins to fall for the charms of Galavan’s niece, Silver St. Cloud (Natalie Alyn Lind). Of course, it’s just another set-up but does Bruce listen to the well-meant warnings of friend Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondovra)? Of course not!
As for Detective Gordon – a precautionary and temporarily split from Leslie also has tragic consequences! Perhaps Gotham is simply not the place where any romance can blossom in earnest?

New captain of the GCPD Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) is adamant to erase all corruption within the police department but despite the tough exterior even he is pretty helpless in the battle against new foes Victor Frieze aka Mr. Freeze (Nathan Darrow), and Bridgit Pike aka Firefly (Michelle Veintimilla). Mind you, Victor Frieze is not the only mad scientist to create havoc in Season 2, far from it. The honour surely must go to Professor Hugo Strange (BD Wong) who indulges in secret experiments – all carried out in his laboratory hidden deep in the bowels of Arkham Asylum. Yes, Professor Strange is Gotham’s very own Victor Frankenstein and his ‘workshop of filthy creation’ even resurrects Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) and attempts to clone our Detective Gordon – thankfully not for long! But before this Legion of Horribles manage to break free and unleash their terror upon Gotham many more incidents happen and a lot more excitement, surprises and plot twists are in store for all the fans of the series.

It all looks even more fantastic on Blu-ray, and if the 6-Disc set (22 episodes in total) are still not enough to quench your thirst then there are some interesting SPECIAL FEATURES to choose from!
