Amy Schumer has advised teenagers not to compare themselves to celebrities.

The 34-year-old actress and comedienne has achieved fame thanks to her unique and daring style of comedy.

She has no issues mocking herself to get a laugh, and infamous pranked Kim Kardashian and Kanye West by falling in front of them on the red carpet at the TIME 100 Gala earlier this year.

During a segment on CBS News’ Sunday Morning programme, Amy opened up about her past and childhood growing up on Long Island, New York.

As she went back to the South Side High School in Rockville Centre, where she was formerly educated, she decided to stop by a drama class and offer some advice to the students.

“This is such a time in your lives when all these insecurities creep in and you’re looking in the mirror like, ‘I don’t look like all the Kardashians,’” she told the class. And you think that that’s wrong. But it’s not. You should just totally look in the mirror and just love yourself, and be like, ‘This is the package I come in, and I’m just going to embrace it.’”

“And don’t try to make your parents proud, because it’s impossible,” she added. “They don’t understand.”

Amy is the daughter of Gordon and Sandra Schumer, who divorced when she was younger. Her life was also dealt more difficulty when her father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was just 12 years old.

But she insisted in the interview that having to care for her father has made her a stronger person.

"I think it was the divorce and my dad getting sick that were the wonderful gifts that made me the strong angel you see here today," she said.

"I love to laugh. I seek laughter all the time. I think that's something that also comes with having a sick parent is you don't know what's going to happen and so I'll be like, 'I'm psyched my legs still work.' And I want to, like, experience all I can and make as many memories as I can."
