Apatow lands Netflix deal

Judd Apatow is returning to the small screen after scoring a deal with Netflix.

The director, who last created 2001 sitcom Undeclared, will be executive producing a new relationship comedy starring Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs for the streaming service, Deadline reports.

According to the outlet, Netflix executives have ordered a two-season straight-to-series pick-up of the show, called Love, about a couple going through the awkward ups and downs of their relationship.

Judd co-created and wrote the storyline alongside series star Paul as well as Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Lesley Arfin, with the duo joining him as executive producers.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos praised the group in a statement confirming the deal to Deadline on Tuesday.

“Judd Apatow has a unique comedic voice that manages to be delightful, insightful, and shockingly frank — often at the same time,” he told the outlet.

“Together with Paul and Lesley, he’s bringing a whole new level of agony and ecstasy to this modern day comedy of manners.”
The deal marks the biggest order in the history of Legendary Television.

“We at Legendary are thrilled to be working with the wonderfully talented Judd and excited to partner with the Netflix team,” Legendary Television’s President of Television and Digital Media Bruce Rosenblum said.

Love’s first season, which will consist of ten episodes, is scheduled for a 2016 debut. Season two, consisting of 12 episodes, will air the following year.
