Bella Thorne thinks females should "demand more" from men.

The 16-year-old actress' latest role on the big screen is as Celia in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. She's the girlfriend of the title character's older brother Anthony, played by Dylan Minnette, and could be described as a high-maintenance partner.

In real life Bella was with her boyfriend Tristan Klier for nearly three years, but the couple broke up last month. She seems to have learnt some valuable advice from her part in the kids' flick though.

"I say more girls should take a few lessons from Celia," she told ET. "You should demand more. A guy should send you flowers after your first date, and let you know how beautiful you are every single day. I don't care if he's tired. He should always ask you how your day is. Girls accept less, and that is not OK."

Bella is bewildered that guys no longer think gestures like giving compliments are important. For her, honesty is always the best policy - even if that doesn't go down well with a date.

"For some reason, guys don't seem to think that that's possible. I have no idea what has changed, but my father used to send my mother flowers every single time after they went on a date. I think that is so respectable," she sighed.

"Guys, now, look at you like you're crazy if you say that that's what you want. They literally look at you like you're nuts. And I'm like, 'Well, if you're not going to give that to me, then bye-bye.'"
