Ben Affleck: I’m so proud of Jennifer

Ben Affleck is “very, very proud” of his wife Jennifer Garner.

The Oscar winning actor and director paid tribute to his spouse when he addressed a Senate Appropriations State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs Subcommittee in Washington, D.C. on aid in Africa on Thursday. The subject gave the 42-year-old chance to praise the mother of his three children for the charitable work she carries out.

“In our family, my wife does extraordinary work with early childhood education in the United States and the Appalachians and West Virginia and Kentucky and the central valley of California is something she cares deeply about," he explained. "She's extremely effective at it. And we’re all very, very proud of her and impressed."

Ben has been married to the former Alias actress for nearly ten years. Together they have daughters Violet, nine, and Seraphina, six, and three-year-old son Samuel.

The couple do their best to get involved in as much charity work as possible. While Jennifer has joined forces with the Save the Children foundation, Ben has gone slightly further afield.

“I do work in the Congo," he continued. "We see that as a microcosm of what this government can be. We can do both. We can do all of these things. We can apply our values to our relatives, to our neighbours be they outside our national borders or be they within. I believe that’s what America is."

Talk wasn’t always serious during the meeting however, as Ben made reference to Senator Patrick Leahy, who is a huge fan of Batman and has made cameos in two of the superhero movies.

“I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge my costar in Batman," he joked, referring to his upcoming role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. "[Your] role is marginally smaller than mine, but I understand that you are quite good."
