Bryan Singer has been accused of sexually abusing a teenager in 1999.

Yesterday a lawsuit was filed in Hawaii federal court that accused the X-Men: Days of Future Past director of sexually abusing a teenage boy 15 years ago.

However, Singer's attorney Marty Singer says the claims are “absurd and defamatory".

“The claims made against Bryan Singer are completely without merit,” he added. “We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated.”

According to Variety, Michael Egan claims he was 17 when the abuse took place. His lawyers say that Singer, now 48, provided him with drugs and alcohol and flew him to Hawaii on more than one occasion in 1999.

"His suit claims battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy by unreasonable intrusion, and it seeks unspecified damages," the website writes.

Marc Collins-Rector, the former chairman of Digital Entertainment Network, is also named in the lawsuit, but not as a defendant. He has been accused of initiating the abuse and arranging for Singer to carry out the alleged acts on Egan at a house in California.

Collins-Rector is a registered sex offender and in 2004 pled guilty to luring minors across state lines for sexual acts.

Egan was an aspiring actor at the time the alleged assault took place and he claims Singer provided him with drugs including cocaine, and alcoholic drinks.

The lawsuit claims Collins-Rector and his Digital Entertainment Network investors would ask young men to a house they called the M & C Estate in Encino, where they would be intoxicated and sexually abused.

Many in the industry were thought to be aware of the "notorious parties", according to Variety.

Singer is the director of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past and was also announced to helm the 2016 instalment X-Men: Apocalypse.
