Steve Carell has been attached to the forthcoming Looney Tunes film.

The former The Office star is the latest land for Warner Bros. executives, who have been in development with the film since 2010, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It’s believed the story will focus on the Acme Corporation, the fictional company known to manufacture catastrophic explosives for many Looney Tunes, including Wile E. Coyote as he struggled to chase down that ever-elusive Road Runner.

The film will apparently include a blend of CG and live-action, although plot details remain mostly unknown, according to THR.

X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are reportedly penning the script.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in negotiations helm the film. The pair previously worked with Steve on the 2011 romantic comedy.

The Lego Movie producers Roy Lee and Dan Lin are reportedly overseeing development.

The Acme film would follow mixed releases for Warner Bros. centred on the Looney Tunes characters.

The studio released box office flop Looney Tunes: Back in Action, starring Brendan Fraser, back in 2003. Before that, executives won big at the box office with 1996 comedy Space Jam, starring American basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Steve can next be seen in director Miguel Arteta’s family comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, co-starring Bella Thorne and Jennifer Garner.

He will also co-star opposite Channing Tatum in Bennett Miller-directed bio drama Foxcatcher, based on the true story of Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz. Both projects are slated for US release later this year.
