Steve Carell is reportedly set to appear in an untitled thriller directed by Gore Verbinski.

The 52-year-old Crazy, Stupid, Love. actor is currently promoting the live-action family movie Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day from Disney, which is set for release on October 10.

But it now appears the star may be taking a step back from family films for a while, as Deadline reports that filmmaker Gore will direct Steve in a yet-to-be titled “paranoid thriller”. The feature’s script will apparently be penned by Steve Conrad, who worked on The Pursuit of Happyness, The Weather Man and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Gore is known for his directorial work on the Pirates of the Caribbean series as well as The Ring and The Lone Ranger.

The director is expected to work on two additional projects for New Regency following the untitled film. These projects will include A Cure For Wellness by Justin Haythe as well as Passengers by Steve Conrad.

Production on the untitled thriller is expected to start in March, Deadline reports.

Meanwhile, Steve Carell will next be seen starring in Foxcatcher alongside Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. The film is set to hit theatres on November 14 of this year. The actor is also set to appear in Peter Sollett’s Freeheld with Julianne Moore and Ellen Page.
