Chris Evans was dumped at his high school prom.

The 33-year-old actor might be known as the hunky Captain America, but he hasn't always been a hit with the ladies. One of his worst experiences was at a school event, and it's something he's never managed to forget.

"I was dumped at my senior high school prom! I was 18 and in love. We danced all night, then she got back together with her ex," he laughed to British magazine Cosmopolitan.

Chris did at least have a shoulder to cry on after his heartbreak though, as he's always been close to his parents. Their bond is strong and no subjects are off limits, sometimes leading to a little embarrassment.

"Ha! Both my parents did. They sat me down and were pretty candid. There was never an awkward discussion in our house," he explained, when asked about having a chat about the birds and bees.

"My mom told me that the best thing you can give a woman is attention. She said, 'Listen to her instead of trying to impress her.' My mom fought for feminism in her day, and she instilled in me the importance of equality."

Chris has been working hard on his career and will reprise his superhero role for ensemble movie Avengers: Age of Ultron next year. He doesn't just think about work though, and more and more he's started to consider what he'd like his personal life to look like in the future.

"Absolutely. My twenties was a time for self-exploration and a little self-indulgence. Now I'm ready to take the next step," he said of marriage.

"I live in Los Angeles and there are a lot of actresses there. But hopefully whoever I end up with won't want to live there forever. I want to move to Boston, where I grew up. I don't want my kids to be the children of wildly famous people."
