Kevin Costner worried he'd scarred his daughter with a harrowing movie scene - but she just pointed out his "fat belly".

The 60-year-old actor has three children with his wife Christine Baumgartner, the youngest of whom is four-year-old Grace. She is very outspoken, meaning she thinks nothing of pointing out her father's faults. This was obvious when she accidentally saw a clip of his latest flick Black or White, in which Kevin plays a man who gets involved in a custody battle over his granddaughter.

"I was watching Black or White and there's this moment where I'm coming out of a pool. I was studying it and I didn't really want her in the room but she came in and sat next to me and I didn't really feel it because I was really concentrating," she explained to US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. "I get pulled out of the pool and it's done and I look over at her and she goes, 'Daddy, you got a fat belly!' And I looked at her, 'You got a big belly!' I tried to explain to her character development, you know."

Kevin and Christine are also parents to Cayden, seven, and five-year-old Hayes, while he has four children from other relationships.

His youngest kids get along very well, but all have distinct personalities. That was never more apparent than when Kevin and his wife took them to the doctor when they were younger.

"I had a three-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy, six-year-old boy and they're going to get their flu shot. My six-year-old boy is a brave boy, he's tough, but the needle freaked him out the needle made him to where he made a really bad scene and people were kind of watching," the star recalled.

Hayes immediately stepped in with some advice. Kevin calls Hayes his "gentle boy", so it comes as no surprise that he asked Christine to let Cayden have his injection another time. He thought his brother would calm down if he was allowed home, but Grace had other ideas.

"My three-year-old girl goes, 'No! He gets it now,'" Kevin laughed. "And she put up her sleeve and looked right at him and just as they gave her a shot she never winced. My six-year-old boy was just dying. She's the one that puts me in my place for sure."
