Billy Crystal will honour Robin Williams at the 2014 Emmy Awards.

Robin was found dead at his Californian home on August 11 and the entertainment community has been in deep grief over his passing.

The men were close friends and they even co-starred in 1997 film Father’s Day together, so Emmy producers thought it fitting Billy pay tribute to Robin in a special segment during next week’s ceremony.

"We felt we needed to do something powerful and memorable. Billy seemed like the perfect choice,” executive producer Don Mischer said in a statement to E! Online.

Don confirmed details of the special tribute segment are still being put in place.

But the producer does know everything is being done to ensure Robin is honoured with grace.

"Plans for the In Memoriam segment are in discussion," Don said. "While we are all still coming to terms with this week's tragic news, we are working to give Robin Williams the proper and meaningful remembrance he so well deserves."

Billy didn’t release a statement after he learned of Robin’s death and his tribute at the Emmys will be the first time he’s publicly addressed his grief.

The only comment he made on Robin’s passing was via his Twitter account several days ago. “No words,” Billy wrote to his followers on the micro-blogging site.

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards are hosted by Seth Rogen and will take place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday August 25.
