Denise Richards has reportedly been awarded temporary custody of her ex-husband’s children with Brooke Mueller.
Charlie and Denise have daughters Sam, nine, and Lola, seven, together, while he and Brooke are the parents of four-year-old twins Bob and Max.
Brooke has fought a long battle with drug addiction which has seen her complete numerous spells in rehab. Denise has been on hand to help with the care of the boys on several occasions and it’s now been claimed she has been handed custody of them by authorities who are concerned for their safety.
“Brooke was given many opportunities by social workers to clean up her act. Social workers felt that Bob and Max weren’t safe in Brooke’s care. The decision was made late on Thursday afternoon, and the boys are no longer in Brooke’s care,” an insider told RadarOnline. “It’s expected at some point the boys will be taken care of by Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife, Denise Richards, who has cared for them in the past when Brooke went to rehab.”
Brooke was hospitalised after an overdose in December and checked into rehab to be treated for Adderall abuse. Denise stepped in to look after the children and it’s something she has vowed to continue doing.
“She loves the boys and their safety and wellbeing mean everything to her. Bob and Max are safe and that is all the matters. Denise is simply complying with the court order,” the source added.
Brooke is said to have taken the court order hard and is struggling to come to terms with losing custody of her children. She is “absolutely despondent” with those close to her hoping she uses this as a catalyst to help her change her life.
Her representative hasn’t commented on the report.
Last year, Denise spoke at length about her relationship with Brooke, Bob and Max. While she understands some will find it strange that she is happy to care for her ex-husband’s children with another woman, it’s not how she views things.
"They’re our family and they’re Sam and Lola’s brothers and I can’t imagine growing up without my sister, so anytime she needs help, I’m there for the boys," she told Access Hollywood.
"[Sam and Lola] are the best big sisters to [the boys] and they love them.
"I know it doesn’t seem normal, but it is our normal. They’re little kids and I love children, and like I said, it’s our daughter’s brothers, so I can’t say no."
