Robert Downey Jr. thinks he should get an Oscar for "getting out of bed".

The 49-year-old actor's latest role as lawyer Hank Palmer in The Judge has already sparked buzz over an Academy Award win, with critics praising his performance.

But that doesn't concern the star, who was more interested in the movie itself than what others would think of it.

"Depending on the day, I can tell you, I should get the Oscar just for getting out of bed. But when I think about this role, do I think about an Oscar? I hope not. I would hope not; that's not the kind of ego I have," he pondered to British newspaper Metro. "I hope I am more drawn towards what I think has artistic merit. I think you can smell it when someone is just chomping for a nomination."

Robert's film choices have definitely paid off, seeing him named the highest paid actor by Forbes magazine for the last two years running. He doesn't let the status go to his head and finds the topic of money "boring".

"Who cares? I remember living in an apartment and you don't have the rent for the next month. All that matters is how is salvation going to occur? How am I going to get 600 bucks?" he explained.

"And that's the only problem money solves. It takes away the fear of financial insecurity and fear of financial insecurity is a big one, but it's only one of a thousand fears."

A more important subject on the star's mind is welcoming his daughter with wife Susan into the world next month. The couple already have two-year-old son Exton together and Robert has son Indio, 21, from a previous marriage.

"I like girls, I do. I think it will be really great. I think it will balance things out," he smiled.
