Duchovny: X-Files remake will be strange

David Duchovny says reprising his role as Agent Fox Mulder will be “strange and fun”.

The 54-year-old actor will return to the part that made him famous for a six-part miniseries due to air next week.

And while David admits the prospect is somewhat daunting, he is thrilled that his return will be alongside co-star Gillian Anderson, who plays Agent Dana Scully.

“It's going to be strange and fun," David told People.com. "Thankfully, Gillian [Anderson] will be there, and we'll both be in positions of like, 'Are we really here doing this again' Are we really saying those words again' At least we'll have each other."

The X-Files came to an end in 2002 after nine seasons. It spawned two spinoff films and the miniseries is set to premiere on January 24, 2016.

But while times have changed since the programme concluded, David says his alter-ego is not that different.

“I'm essentially unchanged, character-wise," he said. "Physically, I'm obviously different!"

"I think Gillian would probably agree that we're both better at what we do. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do with the characters now. You go back to the original pilot, and it's like, 'Wow, we've been doing this a while!' "

As well as The X-Files, David has starred in TV shows including Californication. His newest small screen role on the programme Aquarius sees him star as a homicide detective in the 1960’s hunting Charles Manson.

"It just grabbed me," David said of the show’s script. "I've been interested in true crime since I was a little boy. It was always interesting to me."
