Dwayne ‘The Rock' Johnson may take on the leading role in The Fall Guy.

The feature film production of the popular 1980s television series has been in the works for some time, but it appears that it is finally coming together.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, executives are eyeing Dwayne as the star of the hotly-anticipated movie adaptation.

The original The Fall Guy saw actor Lee Majors depict a Hollywood stuntman who boosted his income by taking on bounty hunter work. His gigs were aided with the help of his sidekick cousin and a beautiful female stunt actress.

Terminator Salvation director McG is in negotiations to helm the picture, which is being financed by Hyde Park Entertainment and WWE Studios.

Writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Edward Miller, who worked together on Thor and X-Men: First Class, have penned the script.

Hyde Park’s Ashok Amritraj will produce alongside Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, the duo who have held the licensing rights to the picture for several years.

The film version of The Fall Guy was first courted by Warner Bros. and was most recently considered by DreamWorks, which was aiming to get Nicolas Cage to star with Casino Royale director Martin Campbell at the helm.

Dwayne has a number of movies lined up including Fast & Furious 7 and Lore. The actor is currently filming 2014 release Hercules: The Thracian Wars, where he depicts the titular character.
