Ellen DeGeneres lost perspective after coming out as gay.
The American talk show host has been gracing TV screens for more than 25 years, after starting her career as a stand up comedian.
Ellen's name is now synonymous with comedy, and her talk show pulls in some of the biggest names in the world of showbiz.
The 56-year-old says that coming out as a lesbian 17 years ago wasn't a big deal for her, but the negative comments she had to endure left her feeling lost.
"I thought everyone knew me and I didn't think that one little adjective was going to define me. I didn't have perspective for a while," Ellen revealed to People magazine.
"Now I look at it as a movie that I saw that someone went through and I only experience the amazing life that I have right now."
Ellen has been married to actress Portia de Rossi since August 2008, following a four-year romance.
The couple have been plagued with constant rumours and speculation about the state of their relationship, but Ellen says there is no truth to these hurtful stories.
"I love her so much it kills me. The tabloids had a photo of Portia not wearing her wedding ring. She goes, 'I didn't wear it because when I ride horses and I'm holding the reins, it gives me a blister!'" Ellen explained.
"The truth is, and this is corny, I fall more in love with Portia all the time. I really do. She surprises me all the time. It's what anyone experiences when you find that person that gets you, wants to take care of you, wants the best for you. We're really lucky because we know how rare it is."
Aside from her successful talk show, Ellen is also busy filming the follow up to 2003's Finding Nemo, Finding Dory.
And if that wasn't enough, Ellen will be taking the reins of this year's Academy Awards, hosting the Oscars on March 2.
"I thought why not challenge myself' I'm comfortable right now and it's never good to be comfortable as a performer.
Hosting the Oscars is pretty much the scariest thing you can do. To me, this is right up there with bungee jumping!" she laughed.
