Emma Thompson thinks people should "delve" into their lives.

The 55-year-old actress has had a varied career and is currently busy promoting her latest film, Men, Women & Children, which also stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Garner.

Emma is happy with the way things have panned out and can't understand why people would want to try and rewrite their stories.

"Well, I see people starting life over and over again. And you want to say: just go deeper into the one you've got," she advised British newspaper The Guardian.

"Because you can skim very easily. It's set up for that because we're such a disposable society. And I think that relationships are regarded as more disposable than they were, and that's short-sighted of us."

Emma is married to actor-and-producer Greg Wise and they have two children.

As she's achieved so much throughout her career, Emma doesn't feel pressure to take on roles she isn't completely sure of.

"Is the subject right and fascinating, and can I bring every best energy I have to it? Especially now, when time's running out. It's a different patch of life, your 50s," she mused.

And the star is definitely not in the camp that believes 50 is the new 35.

"Can I just say, very loudly, b******s. If you look after yourself and you're healthy, then you'll have the energy to do things. But not to recognise getting older for what it is?" she argued.

"I do think the infantilisation of our generation is one of the huge issues of our time. People wanting to be 35 when they're 50 makes me think: why? Why don't you be 50 and be good at that? And also embody the kinds of choices that are sustainable at that age."
