Run by gallery director Jane P. Muir, the DOUBTFIRE Gallery in Stockbridge, Edinburgh, is a bright and spacious contemporary art gallery dedicated to showing the work of emerging artists, graduates and students, alongside that of established artists. The gallery has a high profile in the Georgian New Town area, with an ever-increasing artist portfolio and client list.

The current exhibition, titled Escapade-ECA (Edinburgh College of Art), showcases a collection of work by 4th year students, staff and alumni.
Using a variety of techniques and inspirations from across the field, the Private View was a pleasure to behold not only in terms of the artwork on offer but also thanks due to the friendly ambience and a welcoming staff that didn’t make you feel intimidated.

Highlights of the current exhibition include ‘Sea Fever II’ by Caroline Halliwell, a screen print (see pic) that seems inspired by Hokusai’s famous Japanese woodblock prints depicting ocean waves, as well as ‘The Flying Dutchman’ and Coleridge’s tale of ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’.
Equally captivating is ‘Ivan’, a screen print by Catherine Rayner – depicting a mischievous pooka rabbit which could well have been inspired by the 1950 James Stewart film ‘Harvey’.

Escapade runs until May 2nd.
