Freddie Prinze Jr. nearly quit acting after working with “unprofessional” Kiefer Sutherland on 24.

The 38-year-old actor starred alongside Kiefer, famous for his role as Jack Bauer in the hit TV show, back in 2010.

But after appearing in the eighth series as Counter Terrorism Unit Director Cole Ortiz, Freddie was left stunned by Kiefer's attitude on set.

"I did 24, it was terrible. I hated every moment of it,” Freddie said. "Kiefer was the most unprofessional dude in the world. That's not me talking trash, I'd say it to his face, I think everyone that's worked with him has said that."

Speaking while promoting his new series Star Wars Rebels at the Comic-Con event this weekend, Freddie also revealed the experience had been so traumatic that it nearly caused him to seek a new career entirely.

"I just wanted to quit the business after that," he said. "So, I just sort of stopped."

However, it didn't take Freddie long to get back in the saddle and he has since starred in programmes such as Psych and Witches of East End.

Freddie, who is married to former Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, also admitted that Kiefer's diminutive stature caused issues during their scenes together.

"I went and worked for Vince McMahon at the WWE for Christ's sake and it was a crazier job than working with Kiefer. But, at least he was cool and tall!" Freddie said. "I didn't have to take my shoes off to do scenes with him, which they made me do. Just put the guy on an apple box or don't hire me next time. You know I'm 6 feet and Kiefer's 5 foot 4."

Despite Freddie's less than complimentary comments about his former co-star, Kiefer only had good things to say about their time together.

“We have some great actors joining us — Mykelti Williamson is the head of CTU, Freddie Prinze Jr. is playing my partner," Kiefer told America's Parade magazine in 2009. "So, it's this great balance between something that’s new and what fans will find familiar."
