Comic actor Jim Carrey is upset about having to restrict his food intake.

In his upcoming film, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, the 51-year-old comedian goes shirtless in several of the film's scenes, showing off his character Steve Gray’s svelte physique.

Jim admits that he had to work very hard for Steve’s chiseled body.

Although he is known for the very physical manner in which he expresses humour, Jim found dieting to be no laughing matter.

"It's not a happy place to be," Jim revealed to the publication. "I'm back now. I've got Mr. Cuddly back and we're happy," he added while rubbing his stomach.

Jim embraces his extra flab.

Exercising excessively to achieve the muscular frame of an athlete or bodybuilder is not a prospect that he looks forward to.

"It's not a natural place to live in that kind of shape," he said.

"It looks great. It's fantastic and gets a lot of attention, but you have to eat, like, antimatter to stay in that kind of shape."

This is not the first time Jim’s had to shed the pounds. He told the press he was left drained and “exhausted” when he had to lose weight for the 2009 film, I Love You Phillip Morris. That time he was on a tomato juice diet.

In short, when it comes to ripped abs, losing weight and all that, Jim says he'd rather leave it up to the pros.

"I figured that was Matthew McConaughey's thing," he joked.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone debuts in the US on March 15.
