Gemma Arterton loves that French people "don't give a f**k".

The actress was born and bred in England, but has adopted France as her second home with an apartment in Paris. She speaks the language fluently and is even rumoured to be dating French assistant director Franklin Ohanessian, who she is thought to have met on the set of Gemma Bovery.

"I love it, I love the fact that the people are a bit cold there," Gemma explained to ES Magazine.

"I like that they just don't give a f**k. They're like, 'I don't care if you don't like me.' Or, 'I don't like you.' The honesty of that! [The French] are completely themselves, they have a really strong culture, different to ours. I love their cinema, and I've been to the theatre quite a lot there, and it's taken very seriously."

However, the British beauty would never turn her back on her London roots and still has a home in the British capital.

The 28-year-old is about to start a run on the West End stage in new play Made In Dagenham and concedes work will never dry up for her at home.

"London is way more vibrant and rocking and noisy and diverse, but Paris is more elegant and it's just chicer. I'll always be based here [London]. I've got too many roots here that are very, very strong.

"And, to be honest, I think I'd get bored if I lived in Paris. I've got mates there now, but I like to be really busy all the time and that's much easier here. There's much more work for me here," she smiled.
