Harrison Ford is “battered but OK”.

The 72-year-old actor was seriously injured when the two-seater vintage plane he was flying crashed into a golf course in Santa Monica on Thursday.

Following the incident, Harrison’s son Ben took to Twitter to reassure fans the actor is recuperating well.

“Dad is OK, battered but OK,” Ben tweeted. “He is every bit the man you would think he is.

"He is an incredibly strong man."

Ben is one of Harrison’s sons from his first marriage to Mary Marquardt.

Harrison was rushed to hospital after the crash, but is now said to be in a stable condition.

It was initially reported that Harrison was treated at the scene by two doctors who happened to be on the golf course at the time, before emergency personnel arrived to take him to hospital.

"He was conscious, talking a little – he had a huge cut on his head,” a witness who observed the crash from the golf course told TMZ.com.

"A swath of his skin was missing. There was blood dripping down his face."

The audio of the crash has since hit the internet, with Harrison heard reporting “engine failure” while calling into the Santa Monica Municipal Airport tower.

Following news of the crash, a host of Harrison’s celebrity friends were quick to take to Twitter to offer their well wishes.
“Please everyone send out positive energy for Harrison Ford!” Dane Cook tweeted.

Olivia Wilde, who starred alongside Harrison in 2011’s Cowboys and Aliens, wrote on her Twitter: “Harrison! Stop showing off! '”

And Melissa Joan Hart added: “Sending up prayers for Harrison Ford!”
