Jennifer Love Hewitt thought she was “being Punk’d” when she landed her role on Criminal Minds.

The actress was announced as the latest addition to the cast of the US TV drama back in July, and got the news not long after welcoming her first child with husband Brian Hallisay.

She remembers being “sweaty and clammy” when she got the call - and admits she didn’t believe it at first.

“I was in my sweatpants, with no makeup, making stuffed bell peppers in my kitchen, where I've been for a while post-baby,” she shared with E! News.

The actress confessed she was “not prepared" to return to work so shortly after giving birth to daughter Autumn, now ten months.

But she’s doing the best she can to balance home and work life and is quickly adapting.

"I'm definitely sort of flying by the seat of my pants," she mused.

“You know, you're a mum and everything from the moment they're in your arms is flying by the seat of your pants. So you get very good at it very quickly… [Autumn] is being really brave and I'm being brave and we're just sort of figuring it out,” she said.
Jennifer debuts in her role as undercover agent Kate Callahan Wednesday night.

Showrunner Erica Messer previously said the cast and crew were “thrilled” to have Jennifer on board - and promised her character won’t disappoint.

“Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again,” Erica told EW.com of the former Client List star. “We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU [Behavioral Analysis Unit] team as we head into our 10th season,” she said.
