Sir Ian McKellen wants to marry some lesbians so he's "covered all the bases".

The 76-year-old actor was on hand to officiate when his good friend Sir Patrick Stewart wed Sunny Ozell in 2013, and it wasn't the first time he'd taken on the duty. He's now looking to do it again, joking he wants to have a full set.

"I officiated for Patrick at his wedding, yes. I don't know why they asked me to do that, but I'd already officiated at a civil partnership between two men, so all I need now is to do the same with two lesbians and I will have covered all the bases," he laughed to British magazine Heat.

One of Ian's most famous roles was as wizard Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings movies, and it's a part which remains close to his heart. Apart from anything fans won't let him forget it.

"It's been very pleasant. And when I meet people's children and grandchildren, they get excited. They love Gandalf and trust him, so they like a chat with his representative - me. I was offered a fortune by a very rich man to appear at his wedding. It was a very heavy fee. I might have done it, but part of the deal was that I show up as Gandalf," he giggled.

Ian famously got a permanent reminder of his time of the sets of the fantasy movies - a tattoo of the number nine in Elvish. Many of his co-stars did the same, among them Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood and Dominic Monaghan, but Ian occasionally forgets he's had it done because it's on his shoulder and so he doesn't always see it.

"When someone says, 'Ooh, look at that!' I'm surprised because I forget I have it. Oh no [I don't regret it], it gets some attention. Although I no longer have the sort of body I want to draw attention to, so I'm not going for tattoos of rings over my buttocks or anything," he joked.
