Jamie Dornan concerned by career

Jamie Dornan finds it worrying how "comfortable" he is with playing "psychopath" characters.

The 32-year-old star made his acting debut with a small role in 2006 movie Marie Antoinette but became better known after landing the role of serial killer Paul Spector in BBC series The Fall.

This led to director Sam Taylor-Johnson noticing him and casting him as kinky businessman Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of best-selling book Fifty Shades of Grey when Charlie Hunnam dropped out.

He may have nothing in common with either of his alter egos, but that doesn't stop Jamie from being drawn to them.

“I know, I know, that’s the thing. I consider myself quite light-hearted, pretty easy-going, and I keep playing sick psychopath b*****ds! It kinda worries me sometimes how comfortable I am in that zone," he told British newspaper The Guardian.

“And I still feel that way myself!” he laughed after it was commented that it seemed odd for him to be cast in the erotic flick. “There are times when I’ll be like, ‘Huh, someone made a Fifty Shades movie, that’s funny.’ And then I’ll be like, ‘Wait, I’m the guy?!’”

There have been plenty of rumours surrounding Jamie and his Fifty Shades role, such as that he and co-star Dakota Johnson don't get along in real life and that his wife Amelia banned him from appearing in a sequel.

These reports have since been quashed and Jamie insists that he was fully aware of what he was getting himself into, despite what many may assume.

“You know, I’m not naive as to why people would think it was a bad [career] choice, or why there is a snobbery about it," he explained. "But I’m also not stupid, and I knew with [director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson], and [cinematographer] Seamus McGarvey, the film would be in safe hands. And, you know, it does no harm to be in a film that makes half a billion dollars.”
