Jason Segel: Nudity was ill-advised

Jason Segel thought his mom would laugh about seeing him naked on screen.

The 34-year-old actor isn't shy about baring his body for a joke and gave the audience a full frontal view in 2008 movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He didn't warn his mother Jillian beforehand though, assuming she wouldn't think it was a big deal.

“Poor Mom,” he recalled to British newspaper The Guardian. “I really misjudged that. I thought we had this connection. I thought she would find the surprise of it funny. But she really did not.”

Jason has previously admitted Jillian was so shocked when she saw the movie she cried and then emailed her friends and family, telling them the nudity was "not gratuitous" and "essential" to the storyline.

Jason is a star on both the big and small screen, gaining roles in everything from The Muppets movie to hit TV Show How I Met Your Mother. Rather than look at his career as just a job, the star wants to reach out to audiences via his work.

“Just lately I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and it led me to a rabbit hole about the function of art. I’m interested in finding the union between all of us," he explained. "I want to give people the opportunity to say, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s me up there.’ I want to express something they hadn’t been able to put into words.”

Despite having doubts every now and then Jason never lets them hold him back. He hopes his determination will rub off on others who struggle to find their purpose in life.

“My goal right now is to keep walking through fear,” he noted. “I think everyone has that feeling that they are meant for something more. That there is this form of self-actualisation that has yet to occur. Fear is the only thing that stops us achieving our goals.”
