Jennifer Aniston's favourite gifts are homemade ones.

The 45-year-old actress likes to go back to basics when it comes to the festive season. While many people spend time writing huge Christmas gift lists Jennifer doesn't think that's what it's all about, which means she doesn't even treat her pals to anything.

"I think right now is a time when we're giving to people who really need them rather than to anybody else," she told British magazine Hello! "I don't give gifts - my friends don't really expect them. I do have a tree-trimming party where we hand make little ornaments for the tree. Those are my most cherished gifts from my friends because they're handmade and made with love."

Jennifer likes to look back on the year which has passed when this time rolls around. She focuses on the things she's enjoyed the most and really appreciates, such as having her fiancé Justin Theroux and a close-knit group of friends around her.

She's also proud of the way her career is going. Her turn in Cake has been lauded by critics and seen her tipped for an Oscar nomination, which looks all the more possible now she's picked up Golden Globe and SAG Award best actress nods. She portrays Claire Simmons in the film, who starts a relationship with a widower.

"I tend to use the holiday season as a time to reflect on the things that I'm thankful for. I'm thankful to wake up in the morning and I'm grateful for the wonderful experiences I have had in my work - most recently in making new film Cake," she gushed.
