Jessica Chastain: Lawless cast is aggressive

The Academy Award-nominated actress portrays Maggie Beauford in new indie bootlegging film Lawless.

Jessica’s castmates in the crime drama include Guy Pearce, Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman and Shia LaBeouf.

The star enjoys experiencing masculine energy while shooting pictures.

“No, [Tom Hardy’s not scary]!” she told Star magazine.

“I work with a lot of men you think would be scary – Michael Shannon, Al Pacino, Sean Penn. They have an aggressive vibe, but it’s because they have this vulnerability. So once you get to know them, they’re all kittens.”

Jessica altered her physique in order to depict her character Maggie authentically.

She considers gaining or losing weight for a role to be an inherent part of her profession.

“I try hard not to have vanity,” she explained.

“The movie is set in the 1930s, and I had to gain weight because women were bigger then. You can’t be vain. If I was, all I’d be doing is running on the treadmill!”
