Kate Hudson says Kurt Russell is all she knows as a father.

The 64-year-old actor has been in a relationship with Kate’s mother Goldie Hawn since 1983.

And while Kate’s biological father is Goldie’s second husband Bill Hudson, the 36-year-old actress insists she and her brother Oliver Hudson have never considered anyone other than Kurt as their dad.

“He raised us from the age of three,” Kate told adventurer Bear Grylls on an upcoming episode of his show Running Wild. “That’s a real taking on for a man. He’s my dad. He’s what I know.”

Kate’s comments come after Bill denounced both Kate and Oliver in a recent interview.

His remarks followed Oliver posting a picture of himself with Kate and Bill on his Instagram on Father’s Day, with the caption: "Happy abandonment day..."

"I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognise Oliver and Kate as my own," Bill told the Daily Mail.

"I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name," he went on. "They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver's Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth."

And while Kate didn’t refer to Bill’s recent interview while trekking along the Italian Dolomites with Bear, she did talk about her estrangement from him.

“I don’t have a relationship with him,” she admitted. “It just never really panned out that way.”
