(Cover) - EN Movies - Keanu Reeves struggled to play a director in his latest film, Generation Um...
The actor's new movie follows a day in the life of his character, wannabe filmmaker John, and two beautiful cohorts.
Keanu, 48, found it a challenge to be an actor starring as a filmmaker - in effect, being filmed while making a film.
"It was really tough," Keanu told Buzzine. "When I was going into the project I didn’t know I’d be filming, literally, the sequences. It was a cool opportunity; I was real excited by that."
In a reversal of his real life role as an actor used to being an interviewee, Keanu gets to conduct his own interviews in the film. He simply saw the process as a way to connect with his character.
"I didn’t really take it from a sense of, 'What is it like to be an interviewer or be interviewed?' It was all about taking it to John’s world," he said.
In one scene in the film, Keanu's character John speaks of his disappointment in himself. Despite his own success as an actor, Keanu can identify with the character.
"Life is full of disappointments. I can completely relate to some of that," he said.
Having been busy filming new projects over the past few years, Keanu is now seeing the fruit of his labors on the big screen. Man of Tai Chi, which he directed and starred in, is now finished, and Generation Um... hits screens in May in the US. Samurai film 47 Ronin is due for release around Christmas.
