Diane Keaton worries about the effect her age has on her kids.

The 68-year-old actress is mother to daughter Dexter, 18, and 13-year-old son Duke. Her new movie And So It Goes follows Oren, played by Michael Douglas, who enlists the help of Diane's character Leah to help him look after the grandchild he never knew he had.

The flick has made Diane think about her home life.

"I waited until I was 50 and then adopted two kids as a single parent. You know, though, I would say that it's better to have a man with you. The ideal is to be part of a couple and to raise kids together. I have a boy and a girl and it would have been great for them to have a father. That's just what I think," she told Us Weekly magazine. "But to have missed out on it because I was so career-orientated would have been a shame. So of course I'm thrilled to have them! And I think it has made this part of my life interesting. But it's a vast gap between their age and me age, and I don't know what the effect is on them."

Michael, 69, has grown-up son Cameron with his ex-wife Diandra, as well as 13-year-old Dylan and Carys, 11, with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. He offered some words of wisdom to Diane.

"What you should do is try to get a manny!" he said, reference the colloquial term for a male nanny.

"I had a manny for a while - for Duke, in particular, and that worked well," Diane added. "Still it's not the father. It's a hired hand... Maybe you could come - you could take care of my kids for me?"

Michael laughingly agreed, saying he is a dab hand and things like riding bikes and playing catch.

Things then moved on to Michael's character Oren, who he describes as "Waspy". He is everything Michael didn't want to be when he was young, as he's all about his image. Diane agreed that the actor is very different to his alter-ego, saying she sees Michael more as someone who spends time in Europe.

The actor affirmed that, then invited Diane to use his holiday home in Spain.

"Promise? What if I call you? Am I going to call you up and say, 'I'm going to be in Spain?'" she asked.

He replied: "Exactly, that's what I'm telling you. Call up. All I can say to you is that I still share it, fifty-fifty, with my ex-wife [Diandra]. So come from January to July 15, any time in there, I promise."
