Laura Prepon is able to put things in perspective better thanks to Scientology.

The Orange is the New Black actress follows the controversial religion made famous by celebrities including Tom Cruise and John Travolta. The 35-year-old feels it helps her handle the attention that comes with being in one of the biggest shows on TV.

“When you really cognate that you are a thetan and you have a mind and body, and that the MEST universe does not control you - it puts things into perspective," she told Celebrity magazine. "It takes the weight off you and things become very easy."

She goes on to explain to the publication, which is produced for members of Scientology, how MEST stands for matter, energy, space and time, while thetan is a term used to describe a spiritual being attached to her own body that may be an outer space alien.

“Things don't bother me that had before," she continued. "I remember I was doing a show with an amazing actor, and we were waiting to hear the fate of our show. He turned to me one day and asked, 'How are you always so relaxed? Nothing seems to bother you. I want to know what you are doing...' I take that as such a compliment and testament to the auditing I have done."

Laura has been a Scientologist since 1999. But last year she had to defend herself against claims that the church was not happy about her playing a lesbian character in the hit Netflix show.

“I've never come across any piece of information that remotely is negative or derogatory towards the LGBT community in any way," she said. "I'm an actress and rumours get thrown around and it's part of my job and I have to deal with it."
