Lowe: I feel like a kid

Rob Lowe is glad he stills feels “relevant” in today’s society.

The 50-year-old first came to prominence as a teen after landing a role in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders. He went on to become a member of the famous Brat Pack, alongside the likes of Demi Moore, Emilio Estevez and Molly Ringwald. But after so many years in the business, Rob is glad he can still work on projects that excite him.

“I think the one thing, would be just that I still feel as relevant today as I did when I was in the Brat Pack and The Outsiders,” he told the American edition of Esquire when asked what he was most proud of. “I feel like I'm doing as interesting of work, if not more interesting. Certainly more varied. And I'm getting so many different opportunities.

The Parks and Recreation actor has had the chance to work with some of the biggest names in the industry during his career.

But despite becoming a well-known face himself, he still gets starstruck when he gets to meet people he watched as a child.
“Whenever I get to work with somebody who I've grown up seeing and admiring and they've been around forever, I feel like a kid. It makes me feel like I'm a 15-year-old back on set for the first time,” he confessed. “I just worked with Candice Bergen; I'm looking at her thinking, "Wow, Carnal Knowledge! F**k." She hosted the second Saturday Night Live ever. I watched it when I was 13.”

Rob’s success had been helped in part by his good looks as well as his talent. But unlike many people in his industry, he isn’t terrified of the ageing process.

“I think we all have a healthy fear of it. I enjoy and am enjoying the good things that come along with it,” he added. “The things that come along with aging that you can't get at 25 or 30 or 40 even if you wanted to. Nobody can buy experience. Nobody can buy wisdom.”
