Matthew Perry is devastated he wasn't considered for Fifty Shades of Grey.

The eagerly anticipated big screen adaptation of E.L. James' erotic novel hit cinemas earlier this month and was panned by critics, but broke box office records.

Jamie Dornan took on the role of kinky Christen Grey, while Dakota Johnson played submissive Anastasia Steele.

Matthew shot to global fame as wisecracking Chandler Bing in Friends, but has previously joked his attempts to be a movie star have failed. That hasn't stopped him longing for a part in Fifty Shades though.

"Every single film that's out right now, I've passed on," he laughed to US Esquire.

"[I'm sad I passed on] Fifty Shades of Grey. Is there any way that you could help me get involved in that project? I would do anything. I would play a valet parker in the next movie. I just want to be close to the project.

"I went to see it. I read all three books. Fifty Shades Darker is the second book. It's too naughty. Every six pages there's the most graphic sex scene you've ever seen in your life. I read the entire book going like this, 'NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!' 'YES! YES! YES!'"

Matthew is back on TV screens with new show The Odd Couple. Neil Simon's Broadway play was made famous in 1968 when Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau brought it to the silver screen.

The 45-year-old actor has been a fan of the story since childhood and relished the chance to be involved.

"When I was ten years old I watched the movie and I know every line and have probably seen it 35 times. The biggest challenge for me was to not do a Walter Matthau impression. He was just hilarious. Very laid-back, comfortable in his own skin, and there was a lot of heart to it as well, which we're hoping to add to this show," he explained.
