Mike Myers hates Sundays, so called his daughter that to help soften the blow.
The comedy star and his wife Kelly have son Eric, who is three next month, and four-month-old Sunday Molly together. The couple thought long and hard about the children's names, especially when it came to their baby daughter.
"Me and my wife Kelly hate Sundays - I'm not even kidding - and we wanted to turn it around and make it a good thing," he laughed on The Late Show With David Letterman.
Spike was named after Mike's father Eric, as he hailed from Liverpool, UK, where Spike was a common nickname.
Not to be outdone, Sunday's moniker also has a touch of the family about it.
"Molly is because of my auntie Molly in Liverpool, England, who was my dad's sister but more like my grandmother, who I love very much and she's my guardian angel," he explained.
The 51-year-old star is thrilled to be a father and insists his son is one of the funniest little boys around. The family live in New York City but as Mike is from Toronto, Canada, and Kelly from Boston, the tot has an amalgamation of all three accents. He's also still getting used to being a big brother.
"When Sunday came home, he was like, 'Oh, this is great. Is she staying here?' I said, 'Yeah,'" he recalled. "I said, 'Spike, one day, Sunday will be your best friend.' And he said, 'We'll see.'"
Spike likes helping care of Sunday too, but has some strict rules in place. For one he doesn't call her by her name, telling others to refer to her as 'Baby Sister'. He also likes to make it clear how hard he is working when he's involved with her care.
"I'll say, 'Baby Sister needs a diaper,' and it's like four feet away. And I said, 'Can you be a big brother and get the diaper?' And he goes, 'I'm on it!'" Mike laughed. "He runs over there and he does this thing as if it's really hard, and he [huffs and puffs]. It's all a bit... as if he had to go under barbwire, swim a lake, take enemy fire. It's like four feet away! He knows it's a joke, which is fantastic. I said, 'You're a great big brother, Spike,' and he turns around and goes, 'Just doing my job.'"
