Brooke Mueller may win custody of her children by the end of the year.
The socialite has four-year-old twin boys Bob and Max with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
She has been battling for her children since they were taken from her in May due to her drug and alcohol addictions.
Brooke was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center.
It was previously reported the 36-year-old would win custody of the boys, who are temporarily in the care of Charlie's ex-wife Denise Richards, over the next year.
However, RadarOnline.com reports Brooke may have her family back by December if she keeps up her recovery.
“There will be a hearing in child dependency court in December and the judge will determine if Brooke should be reunited with the boys, at that time,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “She has impressed social workers from the Los Angeles County Department of Children & Family Services. Quite remarkably, given how low she has been, Brooke is now on track to get the boys back.”
Brooke has remained clean during her time in UCLA and her legal representatives are reportedly ready to take things a step forward. It is hoped the judge will rule in her favour.
“All of Brooke’s random drug tests given by the outpatient facility where she is being treated have been negative and she has done everything asked of her. Brooke’s lawyers are preparing to argue that she is on the road to sobriety and the twins should be with their birth mother," the insider revealed.
Meanwhile the twins have joined Denise at parenting classes. Despite the twins feeling comfortable with the actress, the source insists they will be better off with their birth mother.
“The goal of [Crown Prosecution Service] is always for reunification of families because the belief is that it always better for a natural birth parent to be the primary caregiver," the source added.
“In this case, despite Brooke’s history of repeated stints in rehab and a 15-year addiction to drugs, social workers feel that the boys are better off with her - provided she stays clean.”
Brooke may be on the road to recovery, but one failed drug test before the hearing in December means she could lose custody for good. She is aware of the risk and knows she has to try hard.
"The judge, of course, would likely rule that the boys are better off with Denise. Brooke knows what is on the line,” the source concluded.
