Naomi Watts says the best thing to do in Los Angeles during awards season is "to go swim in the sea".

The star has been nominated for a best actress award at next month's Oscars for her role in The Impossible.

The native Australian revealed her best-kept secret for pre-ceremony prepping is to return to her roots by heading for a dip in the sea.
"[My best kept secret about LA during awards season is...] If I have time to go swim in the sea, it is always the best thing," Naomi revealed to the US edition of Vanity Fair. "But often there isn't the time, so I would say eight glasses of water a day and get as much sleep as you can get. Also small meals throughout the day - carry nuts in your purse."

Awards season veteran Helena Bonham Carter says attending ceremonies is often far less glamorous than people think. The actress revealed most of Hollywood's A-list can't stand the long and stuffy events.

“Most people want it just to be over," Helena admitted.

There aren't many people more clued up LA's award season hotspots than American film producer Harvey Weinstein.

The Academy Award winner and co-founder of Miramax Films admitted the highlight of the season is the opportunity to bag free sporting event tickets.

"One of the highlights is Barry Diller's outside party. I find it to be a really fun place to see everyone in the industry in a more relaxing atmosphere," Harvey revealed. "Also, if your movie is in the hunt and has any shot at awards, there is a good chance you can get really excellent Lakers tickets."
