Owen Wilson can't believe studio bosses wanted to make Zoolander 2.

The original 2001 movie saw Owen and Ben Stiller as top male models, but wasn't an instant hit with fans. Over the years it's become a comedy classic, which led to a second instalment being filmed.

"We just finished shooting in Rome a few weeks ago. It's funny that you're mentioning this excitement of people wanting to see it, because the first one didn't do that well. And it's unusual to do a sequel to a movie that didn't do much business," Owen told BBC Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw.

"Ben is editing it now. It will be out Valentine's Day. I think it's going to be funny, you never know how it's going to be, but I felt like it was good."

The new film had a host of stars queuing for a cameo, including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Lewis Hamilton.

Owen never got to work with Justin, but did meet him.

"He was great. I didn't have any scenes with him, but I did go visit the set because they were shooting near me in Rome, and I met him and he seemed like a nice guy," he said.

"Will Ferrell is back and I think we've got a pretty good cast."

But before that, Owen is bust promoting new flick No Escape, co-starring Lake Bell.

The thriller is a move away from comedy, but Owen didn't think his character Jack was too unrealistic for him to portray.

"When I read the script I thought it could be an exciting story and the character seemed in kind of the ball park of something I could play in the sense of I wasn't picking up a grenade launcher and doing kung fu. I was just a father who's there and put in this insane situation. And there's something that kind of happens if your family is threatened, especially your children, that it's a very primal instinct kicks in. So it felt believable," he mused.
