Penn Badgley used his “celebrity power” as a tool for protest.
The 24-year-old star marched alongside Occupy Wall Street protestors in New York on Wednesday.
Occupy Wall Street is an on-going series of demonstrations in New York City based in Zuccotti Park. The participants of the event are mainly protesting against social and economic inequality, business greed and the influence of corporate money on the government.
Penn wanted to use his fame to attract more attention to the cause.
"I mean, listen, it's cheesy," he told Capital NY. "But I want to do whatever I can. Let's be honest: I'm on f**king Gossip Girl. It's absurd that celebrity power is what it is, but, like, use any tool you have, you know?"
Penn’s new girlfriend Zoe Kravitz supported his decision to march. The X Men: First Class actress told Capital NY that Penn was taking part after a friend of his was arrested on Brooklyn Bridge.
The actor was holding a sign that read, “Bring Back the Glass-Stegall Act!! No to Corporate Greed!”
Penn and Zoe have been rumoured to be dating since the summer.
The pair were spotted kissing and holding hands whilst walking through New York’s SoHo neighbourhood on Tuesday.
Fellow celebrities Susan Sarandon, Michael Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Russell Simmons and Tim Robbins have all participated in the protest as well.
Tim was full of support for the cause.
“This is what an actual grassroots movement looks like,” he told the Financial Times. “It’s a bit sloppy and disorganised but full of passion.”
