Sandra Bullock has compared how women are criticised to "open hunting season".

The 50-year-old star is not only a talented actress but her youthful beauty was also recognised when she was crowned People magazine's Most Beautiful Woman earlier this year.

She found the title extremely "generous" and was surprised by the announcement, but has now explained that she accepted the label to discuss her views on how women are judged by their appearance.

"I feel like it's become open hunting season in how women are attacked and it's not because of who we are as people, it's because of how we look or our age. I'm shocked - and maybe I was just naïve, but I'm embarrassed by it," she sighed to E! News. "My son is getting ready to grow up in this world and I'm trying to raise a good man who values and appreciates women, and here we have this attack on women in the media that I don't see a stop happening."

Sandra adopted little boy Louis, five, in 2010. She is making an effort to teach him how to treat females with respect, as she knows how tough it is for young girls in the age of the internet. She thinks someone with a "very large hand and big voice" needs to put an end to online bullying, and revealed how women in the showbiz industry have each other's backs.

"The women have bonded together and have sort of become this tribe of trying to take care of each other and be there for each other in a way, because the minute you step out it's an onslaught," she said of being in the limelight. "And I laughed when [People] said they're gonna be generous and bestow me this wonderful privilege, but I said if I can talk about the amazing women who I find beautiful, which are these women who rise above and take care of business and do wonderful things, and take care of each other, then I'm more than honoured to be on the cover of this."

She concluded by stating young girls are being "harmed" by the pressure towards them to look and act in a certain way. Sandra feels so strongly about this that she admits the issue is scaring her, and she is desperate for someone to step in and banish it.
