(Cover) - EN Movies - Alexander Skarsgard is tipped to play Tarzan on the big screen.

The True Blood actor is leading the pack in the race for the title role in David Yates’ forthcoming film by the same name, Variety reports.

The 6ft 4in star is said to be the director’s top choice for the jungle hero.

The Swedish actor does not have an official offer for the role.

The film will follow the title character after he’s re-assimilated into society.

After being asked by Queen Victoria to investigate suspicious activity in the Congo, “Tarzan teams with an ex-mercenary named George Washington Williams to save the Congo from a fierce warlord who controls a massive diamond mine,” according to the publication.

Samuel L. Jackson is reportedly being considered for the role of Civil War veteran Williams.

Production is tentatively scheduled to being next summer with a decision on the lead actors expected before the end of the year.

Spokespersons for Warner Bros. and the actors have not issued comment on the report.

Alexander will next tackle the big screen in indie films Disconnect and What Maisie Knew.
