(Cover) - EN Movies - Skyfall has finally claimed the top position at the US box office this weekend.

The James Bond film starring Daniel Craig earned $11 million in its fifth week at theatres, finally securing the lead over fantasy blockbuster The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

Skyfall, the 23rd instalment of the 007 franchise, has earned over $261 million thus far. Eon Productions produced the feature with MGM and Danjaq.

Animated family adventure Rise of the Guardians came in second place with a gross profit of $10.5 million.

The film’s plot centres on a supernatural group called the Immortal Guardians who band together to stop evil spirit Pitch from destroying the innocence of children on earth. Rise of the Guardians features the voices of Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman, Isla Fisher and Jude Law.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 moved down to third place with $9.2 million in ticket sales. The final instalment of the vampire series starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as Edward and Bella Cullen has garnered just under $269 million since its release four weeks ago.

Steven Spielberg’s historical drama Lincoln secured fourth place with $9.1 million and Life of Pi fifth with $8.3 million in earnings.
