Kevin Spacey is pleased Bill Clinton is a House of Cards fan.

The 55-year-old actor and his co-star Robin Wright return as power couple Frank and Claire Underwood in the third series of the show, which hits Netflix today.

While the programme paints political life in a rather negative light, Kevin has revealed former US President Bill can't get enough of it and tunes in with his wife.

“He’s a big fan of the show,” Kevin grinned to British newspaper The Telegraph. “He’s not allowed to watch it without Hillary.”

The star won a Golden Globe for best actor in a drama series at this year's ceremony after missing out on the gong last year. He finds it intriguing to hear the reaction from various politicians, especially those who credit it for being believable.

“Some say it’s really cynical,” he added. “Others say it’s closer to the truth than you could ever want to imagine.”

And it seems current American leader Barack Obama is also a House of Cards enthusiast as Robin explained that he once shared his love for the show.

"[He said] 'I'm not as bad as your husband, but my wife is,'" Robin recalled of what Obama told her.

The blonde actress has also taken up the role of director again this time round after helming episodes in the first two seasons. It was an enjoyable experience for Kevin to be advised by his colleague, who he "adores", and he praises her for being "terrific" behind the camera.

It isn't just his role as Frank which Kevin has been recognised for recently though; he is to be honoured with a special prize at this year's Olivier Awards. The accolade is for his outstanding contribution to the Old Vic theatre in London, UK, where he has been artistic director since 2004 and will step down later this year.
