Uzo Aduba had a pre-show dance party with her mum before she won her Emmy.

The Orange Is the New Black actress took home the show’s first accolade from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences for her role as Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys.

The 33-year-old newly-minted star credits her mother with much of her success, and explained to Us Weekly how the pair prepped for the ceremony with a dance party before she hit the red carpet.

"Pharrell's Happy came on, and that always puts me in a great place. I was playing Iggy Azalea’s Fancy. My mum was dancing across the room, just getting excited," she confessed.

Uzo faced off against five other women in the category for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy, including her co-stars Laverne Cox and Natasha Lyonne.

“I feel so full of joy. My cup runneth over,” she gushed. “Mission accomplished."

But Uzo insists the gratitude she has for her win goes much deeper than proving herself in Hollywood.

"My mother sacrificed so much… for her five children to have a chance,” she explained to Us. “She named me Uza Amaka, which means 'the road is good.' The road indeed was a good one despite its challenges.”

Orange Is the New Black is meanwhile up for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards next week.

Uzo and her co-stars, including lead actress Taylor Schilling, will find out what the cast and crew of the show will take home when the ceremony gets underway August 25.
