Zooey Deschanel ‘gives birth’

Zooey Deschanel has reportedly welcomed a healthy baby girl with her new husband.

The 35-year-old New Girl actress announced she was expecting her first child with Jacob Pechenik in January, revealing that same month they became engaged to wed.

And a spokesperson has confirmed to E! News the couple welcomed a little girl last week, with Page Six claiming Zooey gave birth in Jacob’s home base of Austin, Texas.

The rep also revealed to E! that Zooey and Jacob are now man and wife, having secretly married recently.

Zooey has previously revealed she and Jacob, who is a film producer, weren’t concerned over their child’s gender.

"We are gonna be surprised. It's more fun, you know? Make it into a game! I mean... I go back and forth [with my inclinations]," Zooey smiled on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

"But the last time [we went for a scan] the technician was like, 'Just so you know, I always use the pronoun he, because that's my habit so you know beforehand.' She like set it up because we were paranoid about... we didn't want to find out! Apparently not that many people are that sort of... most people want to find out."

Zooey began dating Jacob in 2014 after they met on the set of a movie.

Zooey was previously married to musician Ben Gibbard, but their divorce was finalised in 2012. Following her nuptials, the star was pestered about whether she desired children. It's something she's never been in any rush to do.

"[Having kids has] never been my focus. My sister [Emily] was always very motherly, babysitting and stuff. I like kids, and I like being around kids — but it was never an ambition, something, like, I need… I like working. That's what I like doing. I like to work," she told Marie Claire in the past.
