Salma Hayek is “struggling” to keep up with her clever daughter.

The Mexican-American actress is married to French billionaire François-Henri Pinault and together they have daughter Valentina Paloma.

The 46-year-old tries hard to teach her child things, but often feels outsmarted by the five-year-old.

“Well when you have children, they are so smart and you want to look good to them,” she explained to British magazine OK!

“I had a friend who, every time her daughter would ask her something she didn’t know, like, ‘Mom, why does it rain?’ She would say, ‘Because God wants it to.’ I used to think to myself, ‘I’m not going to be like that. I’m going to tell her about the cycle of water and how it condenses.’ My daughter is really smart. They really keep you wanting to be smart and be good. I’m already struggling!”

The gorgeous star plays a teacher in her latest movie Here Comes the Boom, which also stars Kevin James.

Salma can remember being influenced by her tutors when she was at school.

“I had one teacher in fifth grade that said something about ‘pereza mental’, which is mental laziness and how it was a disease that you have to learn about it and understand it to push yourself,” she recalled.

“This has stuck in my head and it has come in handy many times when I want to learn new things.”
